First venture into iOS game developement

December 22nd, 2011 by Daniel

First glimpse of Blop!

A friend and me started fooling around with game developement for iOS devices. Being all new to this kinda game, it’s quite challenging, and demands big amounts of work and decissions to be made, but in the end, it’s great fun, and we learn allot of interesting stuff along the process.

Right now we have most of the games functions in place, so “all” we need are more level graphics (for different levels ofcourse), a few more bosses, and some other graphics, and then we’re off to build some levels together.

Who knows, maybe we will have a free version out a few months into 2012, and a pro version out later, containing more levels and bosses. Guess we will see how the free version does first.

Oh, we need sounds and music aswell…

I was diggin’ through my Photobucket, and found some stuff hidden there. Old stuff. Gave me a smile on my lips though, so I thought, why not post it here.

Click through the “Read more” to see some of my older stuff that has been hidden on the interwebs.

Enable TRIM in OSX Snow Leopard

April 4th, 2011 by Daniel

If you’re running your computer from a SSD, you’re probably enjoying the great speed from the drive. However, filling up your drive, and deleting stuff here and there will make it run slower over time. Unless your drive and OS supports the TRIM command. Windows 7 supports TRIM out of the box. Mac OSX Snow Leopard however doesn’t. Well, since the last update it kinda does, Apple has build the command in the update, but they don’t offer options to activate TRIM for some reason.

Fear not though, some people have figgered out how to activate TRIM in Snow Leopard, and better yet, a guy called Oskar Groth made a pretty GUI to run a script, which activates TRIM in Leopard. Thanks for this Oskar, made the life of SSD users a bit more enjoyable on Leopard – Kudos!

This sold me an iPad

March 13th, 2011 by Daniel

I always liked the iPad, and as a gadget freak I always would love to have one. I just had the problem though, that I haven’t found the reason to get one. Well, now I have a perfect reason. This video totally sold me. To be able to sketch anywhere you are, and to export to a layered .psd file? Yeah, I so do want that.

Magic Mouse and slow tracking speed Fix

February 26th, 2011 by Daniel

After getting my Macbook Pro I got myself a Magic Mouse aswell to go with it. It has gestures, buttonless scroll, and many other nice features, but it’s tracking is for some reason really off. A quick google found me a fix though. I basically tried three things. First I installed MagicPrefs (found here!), and while it adds a ton of extra preferences for the Magic Mouse, it didn’t do exactly what I wanted. It basically didn’t boost my tracking speed enough, and the acceleration speed on the mouse wasn’t corrected either. Therefor I added yet another hack, through the terminal, which allows you to manually set the acceleration speed. However, when you go to your mouse preferences and alter anything, it resets. The code for terminal I speak of is ofcourse the “defaults write -g com.apple.mouse.scaling -1″ code.

Anyhow, I found a third solution, which seems to do exactly what I want. It’s called Mouse Zoom. I made a mirror for the 64 bit Snow Leopard version here. This little free pref-pane addon really helps me use the Magic Mouse like I want it. Download Mouse Zoom here!

Additionally you can kill the mouse accelaration with a little app aswell. It seems like you only have to run this once aswell. Download iMousefix here!

13 inch and sexy

February 16th, 2011 by Daniel

Ever since I started my apprenticeship back in the days I wanted a Macbook. Some days ago I finally, after all years gone, and after me only working with PCs for several years, bought me a Macbook Pro 13″. Inside that Macbook Pro I then replaced the slow build in 5400 rpm harddrive with a 100 GB SSD, and even though I bought this machine to have a little handy laptop and wasn’t expecting much performance wise from the Core 2 Duo that runs this machine, I am baffled with the speed I get from this little piece of equipment. I was litteraly not expecting anything much from Photoshop and apps like it running on this baby, but to my surprise it runs totally fluid. I’ve tried all sorts of different things in Photoshop, including the Repoussé 3D function, and it doesn’t hick up at all. Amazing.

The main factor for me with this purchase though is, that it’s small, has a gorgeous screen, and the entire build quality is just something you don’t get from PC laptops. This laptop is so well designed and the build quality just oozes of love for the craftmanship put into this sweet piece of equipment. Apple might use some of the older hardware in their machines (the Core 2 Duo is really outdated when you consider for how long the i3, i5, and i7 has been on the market), but they for some reason still manage to get their OS and apps to run so smooth on this beauty. And again, I didn’t get this to play my games on, or do heavy duty work on, but to have a nice and reliable portable, that really is portable. And the 13″ really hits the sweet spot in size and speed. Needless to say, I love my very first, but long wanted Macbook.

iPhone 4 Web developement is fun

August 25th, 2010 by Daniel

So today I thought to myself; Damn! This whole iPhone business is really neat! It really holds some oppurtunities. I then thought to myself; Damn! If only I knew a coder who would like to try and make some fun, creative, and useful apps with me. I know a coder or two, they’re damn busy though. So I wanted to set my bare feet in the iPhones area on my own somehow.

Seeing how more and more sites begin to pop up with iPhone friendly versions of their websites, I thought; why not begin there? And so I did. And boy are there some great possibilities when working on a iPhone optimized website, or so called “Microsite”. I’ve only yet set foot in this amazing wonderland called iPhone developement, but I love it allready.

So, currently I’m playing around with the microsite for http://www.novabook.dk – my employer. I’m trying to keep it really simple and userfriendly there. One of the coolest things I found out so far, is how to implement a phone call button. How sweet is that?! So instead of a contact page, I just added a “Call” and an “Email” button, which does exactly what they say, namely phone the company, or email the company.
